Protect Your Business from Ransomware

May 24th, 2016 by admin

Recently, some of our clients have found themselves victims of the CryptoLocker virus, a form of ransomware. Ransomware takes over a computer and locks you out of your files, then demands payment in order to unlock them. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent 100% of viruses all the time, but there are several steps you can take to prevent ransomware from infecting your system, and precautions that will allow you to recover quickly.
1. Make sure that you are backing up your system every day and saving multiple generations of the backup. In addition, be sure that you are actually backing up everything you think you are. Sometimes we've found clients who thought they were backing up their whole system but were leaving out important areas.
2. Make sure all your endpoints have virus protection installed and that it is up-to-date. New viruses emerge all the time, so anti-virus software must update frequently in order to provide the best possible coverage.
3. Make sure that your network is secure.
The Connect Group can help you with all of these preventative measures, from inspecting your network security, helping you maintain your anti-virus software, and double-checking your backup routine. If you do happen to encounter this (or any other) virus, we can help your business get back up and running as soon as possible.
